- JAL JEEVAN MISSION
- It is a novel approach to provide safe drinking water through Community Participation
- It is the flagship programme of the Union Government mandates the Gram Panchayats, local communities.
- Ramdas has to play a key role in planning, implementation, management, operation and maintenance and mobilise the community for long-term sustainability of water supply systems in villages. This is the true empowerment of people that has been enshrined in our Constitution.
- Ramdas is a resident of Bhojanewadi, Ugalewadi village of Pune. He took the lead in facilitating clean water to his hamlet. To achieve that, a 5,000 litre tank was constructed near the habitation. To improve the storage capacity of the tank, it was deepened and repaired under the UNICEF – Mumbai supported ‘Drops of Hope’ and Jal Jeevan Mission.
- Jal Jeevan Mission aims at ensuring potable water supply in adequate quantity (@ the rate of 55 litres per person per day) and of prescribed quality to every rural household of the country on a regular and long-term basis. The provision of household tap connection in rural areas will help in removing ‘drudgery’ of women, especially the girls. It will also improve the ‘ease of living’ for people living in rural areas.
- RAILWAYS ENHANCES RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE AND URBAN DECONGESTION
- In order to enhance Railway infrastructure and assist in urban decongestion, Indian Railways is taking a series of steps all across the country. The first phase has to be launched in areas near Delhi.
- As a part of those activities, Northern Railways has converted the existing Rohtak-Gohana Railway line into a 4.8 km long elevated track. The work on the line is almost complete and it will be commissioned in the next three months.
- There are four level crossings on this line within the town limits. With the commissioning of the line, Railways will be able to smoothly operate trains on this important route. Speed of trains in this section will also be increased.
- The Railways and the Government of Haryana together working on the project have spent Rs. 315 Crores in total, with the state contributing Rs. 225 Crores.

- NATIONAL SPORTS AWARDS 2020
- A large number of applications were received for Sports Awards this year, which were considered by the Selection Committee headed by former Judge of Supreme Court of India Mukundakam Sharma and other members comprising of eminent sportspersons, persons having experience in sports journalism and sports administration, etc.
- The awardees will receive their awards from the Hon’ble President of India at a specially organized function through the virtual mode from Rashtrapati Bhawan on 29th August, 2020.
- Rohit Sharma, Mariyappan T., Manik Batra, Ms Vinesh and Ms Rani bag the Khel Ratna.
- HARIT PATH
- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has developed a mobile App called ‘Harit Path’ was inaugurated by the Union Minister for RTH Shri Nitin Gadkari.
- The App has to monitor location, growth, species details, maintenance activities, targets and achievements of each of its field units for each and every plant under all plantation projects.
- After launching the app, NHAI has immediately started work to create user ids of over 150 ROs/ PDs/ Horticulture experts. Apart from this, around 7800 plants have also been geo-tagged using the App.
- HARIT BHARAT SANKALP
- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has undertaken the ‘Harit Bharat Sankalp’ to commemorate 25 years of its service to the nation.
- It is a nation-wide plantation drive which is in line with its commitment to promote environmental protection and sustainability. Under this initiative, NHAI planted over 25 lakh plants along the stretches of the National Highways. The drive takes the total cumulative number of plantations done during the current year to 35.22 lakh.
- Maximum numbers of over 5.0 lakh plants have been planted in Uttar Pradesh, followed by over 3.0 lakh in Rajasthan and 2.67 Lakh in Madhya Pradesh along the national highways.
- In order to ensure 100% survival of the plants, avenue plantation of a minimum height of 1.5-meter has been emphasized along the national highway.
- TRIBES INDIA SHOWROOM
- The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda has e-inaugurated a ‘Tribes India Showroom’ in Indian Globe Chambers of LIC Western Zonal Office, Fort, Mumbai.
- Under the scheme, Government has planned to expand TRIBES INDIA retail network to 122 outlets across the country.
- The TRIBES INDIA outlet has two existing outlets at Panvel and Juhu. The newly-inaugurated outlet for the TRIBES INDIA is located at Indian Globe Chambers, D N Road, Fort, in Mumbai. It is the 122nd Tribes India outlet across the country.
- Besides stocking products – arts and crafts from all the 27 Indian states, this is the first stop to focus primarily on Van Dhan essentials and immunity boosters – essential products during this pandemic.
- REGISTRATION AND RENEWAL OF JEWELLERS AND ASSAYING AND HALLMARKING CENTRES
- The Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Shri Ram Vilas Paswan has virtually launched the online system of Registration and Renewal of Jewellers and online system of recognition and renewal of the Assaying and Hallmarking Centres.
- This online system can be accessed through the Bureau of Indian Standards web portal www.manakonline.in.
- These online modules will bring about ease of doing business for both the jewellers and the entrepreneurs who have established Assaying and Hallmarking Centres or wish to do so. Hallmarking of precious metals will be mandatory from 1st June 2021.
- Consumers use the ‘BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) Care app’ to complaint regarding the quality of jewellery/artefacts or any deficiency in the grant of registration or recognition of Assaying and Hallmarking centres or any other product.
