Like the TNPSC Group 4 Exam that is conducted in the country, the selection for the TNPSC Group 2 Exam is held in three stages.

  • Preliminary exam (written): Candidates applying for the exam need to appear for the preliminary exam, which is an objective-type written test.
  • Mains exam (written): Candidates qualified in the preliminary exam need to appear for the mains exam, which is a descriptive written test.
  • Interview: The interview will be held for the candidates who wish to appear or as per the cut off set by the Commission.

For TNPSC Prelims Exam
  • The TNPSC Prelims will have 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s).
  • 175 questions are from the general studies section and the remaining 25 questions from aptitude and mental ability test section.
  • The duration of the TNPSC Prelims Exam is 3 hours of a maximum of 300 marks.
  • The minimum qualifying marks for TNPSC Prelims Exam is 90 out of 300.
For TNPSC Mains Exam

The TNPSC Group 2 Mains Exam Pattern will have two papers: Paper I and Paper II. Both papers will have different qualifying marks and exam duration.

  • TNPSC Group 2 Mains Exam holds utmost importance as the marks secured by the candidates in this Exam is considered for the Final Selection.
  • This will have 2 papers: Paper I and Paper-II.
  • Paper I will be of 100 marks of 1 hour 30 minutes duration.
  • Paper-II will be of 300 marks of 3-hour duration.
  • Answer sheets of the candidates who do not secure minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I will not be considered for the evaluation of Paper-II

The TNPSC Group 2 Mains Exam Pattern will have two papers: Paper I and Paper II. Both the papers will have different qualifying marks and exam duration.

  • This will have 2 papers: Paper I and Paper II.

TNPSC Group 4 Recruitment: Eligibility Criteria

All the aspiring candidates of TNPSC Group 4 Recruitment have to abide by all the Eligibility Criteria Decided by the Commission.

Educational Qualification

There are different educational qualification requirements for the vacancies of VAO, typist, and steno typist grade III, field surveyor, and junior assistant and bill collector. The details of the same are below:

Village Administrative Officer (VAO), Junior Assistant (Security), Junior Assistant (Non-Security), Bill Collector, and Draftsmen: The candidate must have passed the SSLC exam with the minimum marks that can grant admission to higher secondary courses.
Typist: The candidate must have passed the SSLC exam with the minimum marks that can grant admission to higher secondary courses and Government Technical Examination in typewriting.
Steno-Typist (Grade – III): The candidate must have passed the SSLC exam with the minimum marks that can grant admission to higher secondary courses, as well as Government Technical Examination both in typewriting and shorthand.
• Field Surveyor: For the recruitment to the post of a field surveyor, other things being equal, preference would be given to the candidates who are trained in survey in industrial training institutes.

Computer Qualification For Typist and Steno typist Post

Candidates should have passed the certificate course in computer on office automation awarded by the technical education department for the post of Typist and Steno typist to eligible for TNPSC Group IV.

Knowledge in Tamil

Applicants should also have a working knowledge of Tamil Language.

Exam Pattern for TNPSC Group 4

The TNPSC Group 4 paper has 300 questions and the duration of the exam is three hours. All the questions will be Objective type. The candidates need to score more than the minimum qualifying marks. The minimum qualifying marks is 90 for all the categories. The questions on General Studies will be set both in English and Tamil and the questions on General Tamil/ General English will be set in the respective languages.

Candidates are given the option to choose either General Tamil or General English for answering the second 100 items apart from answering the first (75+25)100 items on General Studies and Aptitude & Mental Ability Test.

  • Two types of question papers will be set.
    Type- 1:-: General Studies (75 items) + Aptitude & Mental Ability Test (25 items) and General
    English (100 items).
    Type-2:-: General Studies (75 items) + Aptitude & Mental Ability Test (25 items) and General
    Tamil (100 items)
  • Candidates are given the option to choose either General Tamil or General English for answering the second 100 items apart from answering the first (75+25)100 items on General Studies and Aptitude & Mental Ability Test.

Q. What is the TNPSC Group 4 Exam?

Ans. TNPSC Group 4 Exam is the Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission is the combined civil services examination – 4 (Group-IV) for direct recruitment of candidates for the post of Village Administrative Officer (VAO), Junior Assistant (Non – Security & Security), Bill Collector, Grade-I, Field Surveyor, Draftsman, Typist, Steno-Typist(Grade-III).

Q. What are the subjects for the TNPSC Group 4 Exam?

Ans. The TNPSC Group 4 Exam will comprise of three (3) Subjects: General Studies, Aptitude Test, and General Tamil / General English. There will be a choice between General English and General Tamil for the candidates.

Q. What is the exam pattern for the TNPSC Group 4 Exam?

Ans. The TNPSC Group 4 Exam will be of a total of 300 marks of 3 hours comprising of 200 questions.

Q. How many questions will be there in each of the subjects?

Ans. There will be a total of 200 questions. The General Studies will have 75 questions, Aptitude Test will have 25 questions, and General Tamil / General English will have 100 questions.

Q. What is the qualifying marks for the TNPSC Group 2 Exam?

Ans. The candidates will have to secure a minimum of 90 marks out of 300 marks.

Q. Will the TNPSC Group 4 Exam Objective in nature?

Ans. Yes, the exam will be objective in nature with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Q. What will be the language of the TNPSC Group 4 Exam?

Ans. All the questions will be set bilingually, i.e. English and Tamil, and the questions on General Tamil/ General English will be set in the respective languages.
