Bank of India Recruitment 2020: Selection Process For Clerk and Officers

  1. Selection will be through shortlisting for interview and / or field trials based on their qualification, experience and overall suitability for the post.
  2. Shortlisting in Officer cadre will be through screening of an application, the conduct of field trials in the respective sport followed by an interview.
  3. Shortlisting in Clerical cadre will be through screening of applications and conduct of field trials.
  4. Candidates will be called for interview /field trials in the ratio of 3:1 to the number of vacancies.

This time, exam centers will not display the candidates’ Roll Number and Room or Lab Number on their walls. Candidates will be informed about their Lab number in which they need to sit for the exam at the time of verification of Admit Card and ID at the exam center.

Candidates will be permitted to carry only certain items with them into the venue that are listed below:

Age Limit

The minimum age limit for a candidate to apply for the SBI Circle Based Officer must be below 30 years as on 01st August 2020.

Any candidate applying for SBI PO must fulfill the eligibility criteria which includes fulfillment of Age Limit, Nationality, and Educational Qualification.

SBI PO Age Limit

SBI PO 2020: Selection Process

The SBI PO Selection Procedure involves three phases: || Prelims | Main | Interview ||
Each round holds equal importance and hence qualification in each round is important to enter into the next subsequent round until final selection.

Stage 1: SBI PO Prelims 

  1. The SBI PO Prelims Exam is the first basic round for the candidates to test their general aptitude.
  2. SBI PO Prelims Exam is an online objective test of 1 hour.
  3. The Exam consists of 3 sections- English Language, Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude.
  4. There will be no sectional cut-off in the SBI PO Prelims Exam.
  5. However, there will be an overall cut off set by the bank as per the category of the candidates.
  6. Candidates numbering 10 times the numbers of vacancies (approx.) in each category will be short listed for Main Examination from the top of above merit list.

Stage 2: SBI PO Mains

  1. The candidates who clear the SBI PO Pre will be eligible to appear for the SBI PO Mains Exam.
  2. The SBI PO Mains Exam comprises of Objective Test and Descriptive Test.
  3. The SBI PO Mains Exam is of 4 sections (English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning & Computers, and General/Economy/Banking Awareness) which will be objective in nature.
  4. The descriptive test is of 50 marks and is conducted immediately after the objective test.
  5. Category wise merit list will be drawn on the basis of the aggregate marks scored in the Main Examination.
  6. There will be no sectional cut-off.
  7. Candidates numbering up to 3 times (approx.) of the category wise vacancies will be shortlisted for the Group Exercise & Interview from the top of the category wise merit list subject to a candidate scoring the minimum aggregate qualifying score

Stage 3: SBI PO Group Exercises & Interview

This is the last stage of the selection process. The candidates who have qualified the SBI Mains Exam will be called to appear for the Interview and group Exercise. This round holds the utmost importance in deciding the fate of the candidate with respect to the final selection.

The marks obtained in the SBI Mains and Interview are used for the final selection fo the candidate as an SBI PO.

SBI PO Exam Pattern

SBI PO Exam Pattern will be covering two phases for online exam, Prelims & Mains. This will be followed by an interview.

SBI PO Exam Pattern For Prelims

  1. This is the first round of the SBI PO Exam.
  2. This will have 3 sections where each section will have to be completed in 20 Minutes.
  3. The total marks of SBI PO Prelims Exam is 100 Marks while the duration of exam is 1 Hour.
  4. One (1) mark is awarded for every correct answer.
  5. There will be a penalty of 0.25 Marks for every incorrect answer marked by the candidate.
  6. All the questions will be set bilingually i.e. in English and Hindi, except the English Language.

SBI PO Exam Pattern For Mains

This is the 2nd Stage of the SBI PO Exam. The candidates who will qualify the Prelims of SBI PO Exam will be eligible to appear for the SBI PO Mains Exam 2020.

  1. There will be four sections for the SBI PO Mains Exam and an additional section of the English Language which will be taken separately on the same date of the exam.
  2. The SBI PO Mains Exam will have a total of 155 MCQ’s of a total duration of 3 Hours.
  3. There will be separate timing for each section as it was in the SBI PO Mains Exam.
  4. There will be a penalty of 0.25 Marks for an incorrect answer.

Introduction of Descriptive Test

The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with two questions for 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). The English Language Paper is to assess the candidates’ writing skills and it is compulsory to pass in this paper by securing a minimum Cut Off by the commission.

SBI PO Interview

Candidates qualifying in the objective and descriptive test will be called for a group exercise & interview.

  1. The SBI PO Group Exercises will be of 20 marks while the Interview will be of 30 marks. Thus, making it a total of 50 Marks.
  2. Qualification/ qualifying marks in the group exercise and interview is decided by the Bank. Aggregate marks will decide the qualification after which they will be arranged in descending order in each category.
  3. Only the marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II), both in the Objective Test and the Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in GE & Interview (Phase-III) for preparing the final merit list.
  4. The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately.

SBI PO Final Scores

The preliminary exam of SBI PO or the Tier 1 is only considered for the selection or qualification into the mains(tier 2) exam.

  1. Candidates have to qualify both Prelims & Mains round. Phase 2 and the Interview round will be deciding the final selection.
  2. Only the marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II), both in the Objective Test and the Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in GE & Interview (Phase-III) for preparing the final merit list.
  3. The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately.
  4. Marks secured by the candidates in the Main Examination (out of 250) are converted to out of 75 marks and Group Exercises & Interview scores of candidate (out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25 marks.

Marking Scheme For SEBI Grade A Officer Recruitment Phase II

  • There shall be negative marking (1/4th of marks assigned to the question) for Paper 2 in Phase II
    (except IT stream for which details shall be informed in due course).
  • Candidates would need to secure separate cut-off in each paper as mentioned at (iv) above as well as
    aggregate cut-off marks of 40% in Phase II exam (weightage of 1/3rd for Paper 1 and 2/3rd for Paper 2)
    to be shortlisted for Phase III.

c) Interview

Candidates who clear Phase I and Phase II will be shortlisted for the interview. The candidate may opt for an interview either in Hindi or English. Weightage of marks obtained in Phase II will be 85%, while marks obtained in the interview shall be given a weightage of 15%. Thus, the final selection will be made on the basis of Phase II and the interview.

Salary For SEBI Grade A

The pay scale of SEBI Grade A manager is Rs. 28150-1550(4)-343501750(7)-46600-EB-1750(4)-53600- 2000(1)-55600 (17 years).

SEBI Grade A In Hand Salary

Taking into account allowances, the gross emolument scale is approx. Rs. 1,07,000/- per month without accommodation and Rs. 73,000/- per month with accommodation.

SBI Clerk Local Language Test

  • The language test is conducted for candidates qualifying for the mains exam.
  • Candidates who have studied the opted local language in Class 10th  or 12th are not required to appear in the test.
  • In the case of others, a local language test is conducted before joining.
  • It is also mandatory for candidates to qualify for the local language test.
  • Candidates found not proficient in a particular local language are disqualified from the recruitment process.

After the candidates have appeared for the SBI Clerk Prelims and Mains Exam, the candidates will be shortlisted for the final appointment as SBI Junior Associates or SBI Clerk.

  1. SBI maintains a waiting list of up to 50 percent of the vacancies both state-wise and category-wise.
  2. Candidates will be offered an appointment from this waitlist on a quarterly basis if anyone does not join or resign.
  3. Only those candidates are selected from the waitlist who secures the minimum qualifying marks in the mains exam.
  4. The waitlist is valid for a period of one year from the date of declaration of the SBI Clerk final result.

Tie-Breaking Policy in SBI Clerk Result

In events where two or more candidates secure equal score, the tie is resolved in the following manner:

  • Candidates belonging to the reserved category such as SC/ST/OBC/PH will be considered.
  • If the tie persists candidate who has fewer number of incorrect answers in all the subjects will be considered.
  • If the tie continues, candidates older in age will be considered.

What After SBI Clerk Final selection?

Candidates newly appointed as SBI Clerk or SBI  Junior Associates will be on probation for a minimum of six months. After the completion of the Probation Period, they will be converted into permanent employees. The SBI CBO Pay Scale will be Rs. 23700-980/7-30560-1145/2-32850-1310/7-42020.

This means the CBO will get a basic pay of Rs 23700 with an increment of Rs 980 for the next 7 years, followed by a basic of Rs 30560 with an annual increment of Rs 1145 for the next two years and so on. The maximum basic salary will be Rs 42020.

SBI CBO In Hand Salary

The candidates who will be appointed as SBI Circle Based Officer (CBO) will be paid or the Basic Pay will be Rs. 23,700/- plus one increment at the starting of the job. The candidates will be given one increment for each completed year of service rendered in officer cadre in the Scheduled Commercial Bank and Regional Rural Bank, as on 01.08.2020.

The Gross compensation received lies between 8.20 Lakhs (minimum) to Rs. 13.08 lakhs (maximum) per annum. The amount varies with the location of job posting.

SBI CBO Promotion, Career Growth

  1. On joining, the selected candidates will be designated as “Circle Based Officers” (CBOs) and will be on probation for a period of 6 months.
  2. The CBOs will be subjected to continuous assessment during the probation period for judging their suitability for confirmation.
  3. The candidates who qualify in their assessment as per standards determined by the Bank from time to time, will be confirmed in the service of the Bank in Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I).
  4. If any candidate fails to achieve minimum standards stipulated, his/ her services may be terminated as per the policy of the Bank in force at the material time.
  5. The selected officers will be in the general cadre and will be governed by the promotion policy applicable for Bank’s general cadre officers.
  6. The selected candidates will not be entitled to inter-circle transfer up to his/ her promotion to SMGS-IV Grade OR 12 years of service, whichever is later.
