IIT Admission Eligibility Criteria 2020: There is an extremely important update for all the candidates who are interested in securing admission at any of the IITs in the country. As per the latest announcement by the Union Human Resource Development Minister, Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank that for this year students who wish to get admission into the IITs, will not be subject to the criteria of scoring minimum 75% marks in their class 12th exams i.e. apart from clearing the JEE Mains Exam and JEE Advanced Exam, students will just need to score the passing marks to be eligible for the admission. The HRD minister announced this decision through a series of tweets which reads as, “For admissions to IITs, apart from qualifying the JEE (Advanced), the eligibility was to secure either a minimum score of 75% marks in class XII Board exams or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations. Due to the partial cancellation of class XII exams by several Boards, Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for JEE (Advanced), 2020 qualified candidates, this time.” He further added that “Qualified candidates who have passed class XII examinations will now be eligible for admissions irrespective of marks obtained.” Check | JEE Advanced Syllabus 2020 to Remain The Same Confirms IIT Delhi

Parameters Guidelines 
Age-related requirements There is no upper age limit that students must satisfy in order to be eligible for admission into IITs in 2020.
Educational requirements The students must have passed the class 12th exams or equivalent qualifying exam in the last two years. Students who have appeared for class 12th  exam or any equivalent exam in 2020 are also eligible to apply.
Other educational requirements Candidates seeking admission in IITs in 2020 must-have studied the following subjects in their class 12th or other qualifying exams: –

  • Language
  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry

Another subject of personal choice

Qualification marks In order to decide the eligibility for admission into IITs in 2020, the marks scored by the candidate in JEE Advanced 2020 will be considered. Class 12th marks will not be considered for admission this year.
Number of attempts allowed The maximum number of attempts allowed are 3 for the JEE Mains Exam and a maximum of 2 consecutive attempts for JEE Advanced.
