(a) Scrap value
(b) Salvage value
(c) Book value
(d) Replacement value

Q3. The standard turbidity produced by one mg of silicon dioxide (silica) in one litre of distilled water, is called
(a) One Jackson turbidity unit (JTU)
(b) One Formazine turbidity unit (FTU)
(c) One Nephelometry turbidity unit (NTU)
(d) None of the above

Q4. The purpose of stiffeners in a plate girder is to:

(b) increase the moment carrying capacity of the girder
(c) prevent buckling of web plate
(d) reduce the shear stress

Q5. A line load of infinite length has an intensity q per unit length. What is the vertical stress σ_z at a depth z below the earth at the centre of the load?

(a) 1/5th of mean dimension
(b) 2/5th of mean dimension
(c) 3/5th of mean dimension
(d) 4/5th of mean dimension

Solutions

S1. Ans.(a)
Sol. (1) Exogenous tree → They are grown in bulk in outward directions. They are subdivided into two types-
(a) Conifer trees → These trees possess distinct annular rings and indistinct medullary ring. They are light, soft, resins, light in colour etc. They are also called as soft wood.
Ex. Chir, deodar, pine , willow sandel, mulberry etc.

(b) Decidous trees → These are also termed as broad leaved trees. They possess indistinct annular ring and distinct medullary rings. They are hard, Strong, dark in colour etc. They are also called as hard wood.
Ex. Sal, teak, oak, babul, shishum etc.

(2) Endogenous trees → They are grown in bulk in inward direction.
Ex. Bamboo, cane, palm tree.

S2. Ans.(b)
Sol. The actual cost of a work is known as the completion of the work.
Types of value
Market value → This is the value of the property when it put for open sale at auction.
Book value → It is the value of property during its life based on purchase value & depreciation etc.
Scrap value → It is the value of dismantle material when design life of structure is completed.
Salvage value → It is the value of property at the end of the utility period without being dismantled.

S3. Ans.(a)
Sol. The standard turbidity is produced by one mg. of silica as silicon dioxide (SiO_2 ) is added to 1l. of pure water to make the standard turbid solution is called one Jackson turbidity unit (JTU)

S4. Ans.(c)
Sol. Stiffeners are typically plate welded to the web. These plates increase the moment of inertia of plate girder which enhance the rigidity in turns it prevent buckling of web plate. To increase the moment carrying capacity of the girder, we provide the cover plates on flange.

S5. Ans.(b)
Sol. A line load of infinite length has an intensity q per unit length then vertical stress (σ_z) at a depth Z below the earth is given by –
▭(σ_z=2q/πz)

S6. Ans.(c)
Sol. An aggregate is said to be flaky it the percentage of particle having their least size smaller than 3/5th of their mean dimension.
