RSMSSB-JE’21 CE: Daily Practices Quiz. 02-Aug-2021

Quiz: Civil Engineering
Exam: RSMSSB-JEn
Topic: Miscellaneous

Each question carries 1 mark
Negative marking: 1/3 mark
Time: 8 Minutes

Q1. Calculate the value of modulus of rigidity (N/mm²) if the Poisson’s ratio is 0.25 and modulus of elasticity for the material is 200 N/mm²
(a) 50
(b) 80
(c) 100
(d) 150

Q2. Which of the following method is not a direct stream flow measurement technique?
(a) Dilution method
(b) Ultrasonic method
(c) Area-velocity method
(d) Slope-area method

Q3. Calculate the total correction (m) required, if a line measured using 20 m chain is 2380 m. actual length of the chain is 20.2 m.
(a) 22.6
(b) 23.56
(c) 23.8
(d) 476

Q4. The type of cement used in lining of deep tube wells is:
(a) Blast furnace slag cement
(b) Portland pozzolana cement
(c) Oil well cement
(d) High alumina cement

Q5. Which of the following is an example of a sedimentary rock?
(a) Quartzite
(b) Sandstone
(c) Marble
(d) Granite

Q6. Identify the work in which the units of measurement for estimation of quantities are NOT identical
E. Turfing of bunds of a canal
F. Wood work for door shutters
G. White washing
H. Well sinking
(a) G
(b) H
(c) E
(d) F

Solutions

S1. Ans.(b)
Sol. Given; E = 200 N/mm², G = ?
μ = 0.25
we know that,
E=2G(1+μ)
200=2G(1+0.25)
100=G(1.25)
G=80 N\/mm^2

S2. Ans.(d)
Sol. Slope area method is not a direct stream flow measurement technique. This method is used for high water marks and wash lines. Manning’s equation is used in this method to calculate the discharge.
Q=1/n AR^(2/3) S^(1/2)
n= Meaning’s co-efficient
R= Hydraulic mean radius
S= side slope
A= Area

S3. Ans.(c)
Sol. True length of chain (l) = 20 m.
Actual length of chain (l) = 20.2m.
Measured length of line (L’) = 2380m.
Total correction required (C) =?
C=L^’ ((l^’-l)/l)
=2380((20.2-20)/20)
=2380×0.01
=23.8 m.

S4. Ans.(b)
Sol. Portland – Pozzolana cement (PPC) is used in lining of deep tube wells. It is manufactured by grinding OPC and Pozzolana (containing fly ash 10 to 25% by mass). It is also used in mass concreting and places of high temperature.

S5. Ans.(b)
Sol. Sedimentary rocks → These rocks are formed by deposition of products of weathering on the pre-existing rock by transport agent like frost, rain, wind etc.
Ex. Sandstone, Limestone, Lignite, Gypsum etc.

S6. Ans.(b)
Sol. Well sinking is different from other options because it is measured in meter while turfing of bunds of a canal, wood work for door shutters and white washing are measured in square meter.
