SOLUTIONS
S1. Ans.(c)
Sol. In a lap winding, the number of parallel paths, A, is always equal to the number of poles, P, and also to the number of brushes. In wave windings, the number of parallel paths, a, is always two (2), and there may be two or more brush positions.
S2. Ans.(a)
Sol. For lap wound, number of parallel path(A)=number of poles(P)
Number of conductors/parallel path = 400/8 = 50
∴Generated voltage = 50 * 2 = 100 V.
S3. Ans.(b)
Sol. In electromagnetism, magnetic susceptibility can also be defined as the measures of how much a material will be magnetized in an applied magnetic field. Mathematically it can be said as the ratio of intensity of magnetisation and magnetizing force.
χ=M/H
Where, χ: magnetic susceptibility
M: magnetization
H: field intensity
S4. Ans.(d)
Sol. Relative permeability is the ratio of permeability of the material to the permeability of free space. Since it is a ratio, it is a dimensionless quantity.
S5. Ans.(d)
Sol. Conservator is placed at the top of the transformer. It controls the expansion and contraction of the transformer oil on heating and cooling process respectively.
S6. Ans.(b)
Sol. Wave wound for high voltage & low current whereas LAP winding used for high current and low voltage.
S7. Ans.(c)
Sol. The arc utilized in electric arc welding is a low voltage and high current discharge type.
Arc welding is a type of welding process using an electric arc to create heat to melt and join metals. A power supply creates an electric arc between a consumable or non-consumable electrode and the base material using either direct (DC) or alternating (AC) currents.
S8. Ans.(d)
Sol. When electrical circuit being tested is open, torque due to voltage coil will be maximum and pointer shows ‘infinity’ means no shorting throughout the circuit and has maximum resistance within the circuit under test.
S9. Ans.(a)
Sol. In PMMC instruments, damping torque is provided by eddy currents.
S10. Ans.(a)
Sol. For 3-phase induction motor: Pmech=(1-s) Pag
