NHPC-JE’21 EE: Daily Practices Quiz 11-Oct-2021

Each question carries 1 mark.
Negative marking: 1/4 mark
Total Questions: 06
Time: 06 min.

Q1. The damping torque in a moving coil instrument is caused by
(a) Eddy current
(b) Gravity friction
(c) Fluid friction
(d) Copper losses

Q2. Trash rack, forebay, surge tank, spillway are the terms involved with:
(a) Nuclear power plant
(b) Thermal power plant
(c) Wind turbine-based power plant
(d) Hydroelectric power plant

Q3. Which of the following type of DC generator is most suitable as a booster?
(a) Series generator
(b) Shunt generator
(c) Compound generator
(d) Separately excited generator

Q4. Which of the following is equivalent to the Boolean function X+XY?
(a) Y
(b) X
(c) 0
(d) 1

Q5. One kWh of electrical energy equals:
(a) 3600 J
(b) 860 kcal
(c) 3600 W
(d) 4186 J

Q6. Two wires A and B of the same material but of different lengths L and 2L have the radius r and 2r respectively. the ratio of specific resistance will be
(a) 1:4
(b) 1:8
(c) 1:1
(d) 1:2

SOLUTIONS

S1. Ans.(a)
Sol. In PMMC, as the coil moves in the magnetic field, eddy current sets up in a metal former or core on which the coil is wound or in the circuit of the coil itself, which opposes the motion of the coil resulting in the slow swing of a pointer and then come to rest quickly with very little oscillation.

S2. Ans.(d)
Sol. All the mentioned terms are associated with the Hydroelectric power plants.

S3. Ans.(a)
Sol. Series generators are used as boosters to compensate for the voltage drop in the feeder in various types of distribution systems such as railway service.

S4. Ans.(b)
Sol. Z=X+XY=X(1+Y)=X.1=X

S5. Ans.(b)
Sol. 1 kwh = 1000 Watt × 3600 sec.
= 36 × 10^5 Joule
4.18 Joule = 1 calorie
∴ 1 kwh = 36 × 10^5 joule = (36×10^5)/4.18 = 860 kcal.

S6. Ans.(c)
Sol. Specific resistance depends on:
Composition of material
temperature
So, if two wires are made using the same material then ρ1,ρ2 = constant
∴ ρ1=ρ2=1
