Q1. Granite and rhyolite are examples of which of the following?
(a) Sedimentary rocks
(b) Stratified rocks
(c) Igneous rocks
(d) Metamorphic rocks

Q2. A 30m, metric chain is found to be 0.1 m too short throughout the measurement. If the distance measured is recorded as 300m, then the actual distance measured will be:
(a) 300.1 m
(b) 301.0 m
(c) 299.0 m
(d) 310.0 m

Q3. Which of the following process is adopted to remove odour and taste due to voltatile gases like hydrogen sulphide and algae in a water treatment plant?
(a) Filtration
(b) Sedimentation
(c) Disinfection
(d) Aeration

Q4. If L is the length of vehicles in meters C is the clear distance between two consecutive vehicles (Stopping sight distance), V is the speed of vehicles in km per hour, the maximum number N of vehicles/hour is ________.
(a) N = 1000C/(L + V)
(b) N = (1000 L)/(C + V)
(c) N = (L+C)/(1000 V)
(d) N = (1000 V)/(L + C)

Q5.A soil has a liquid of 40% and plasticity index of 20%. The plastic limit of the soil will be
(a) 20%
(b) 30%
(c) 40%
(d) 60%

Q6. Wheat requires about 7.5 cm of water after every 28 days and the base period for wheat is 140 days. What will be the value of Δ for wheat?
(a) 37.5 cm
(b) 30.75 cm
(c) 750 cm
(d) 17.5 cm

Solutions

S1. Ans.(c)
Sol. Igneous rock → These rocks are formed by cooling or solidification of magma. These are strong and durable.
Ex. Granite, dolerite, basalt, andesite, rhyolite etc.

S2. Ans.(c)
Sol.
l = 30
l’ = 30 – 0.10 = 29.9m.
L’ = 300 m.
L =?
L × l = L’ × l’
L × 30 = 300 × 29.9
▭(L=299m.)

S3. Ans.(d)
Sol. Aeration is the process in which water is brought in intimate contact with air which removes undesirable gases (like CO_2 H_2 S), taste, odour, volatile liquid and dissolved mineral (like iron and magnesia) from water.

S4. Ans.(d)
Sol. Maximum theoretical capacity from space head way is given by–
N=(1000 V)/S
▭(N=(1000 V)/(L+C)) (∵ S = L + C)
Where, N = Theoretical maximum capacity
V = Speed of vehicle in kmph
L = Length of vehicle in m.
C = Clear distance between two consecutive vehicles.

S5. Ans.(a)
Sol. Given
w_L=40%
I_P = 20%
w_P= ?
I_P=w_L-w_P
20%=40%-W_P
▭(W_P=20%)

S6. Ans.(a)
Sol. Delta (∆) = 7.5 cm.
Bale period (B)= 28 days
D=8.64 B/∆
= 8.64×28/7.5×100
= 3225.6 ha/cumes
Now B= 140 days
∆= ?
D= 3225.6 ha/cumecs
∆=8.64 B/D
= 8.64×140/3225.6
= 0.375 m.
= 37.5 cm
