S1. Ans.(b)
Sol. No load loss consists of core loss, friction and windage loss and no-load copper loss. But shunt branch resistance R_C in the induction motor equivalent circuit does not represent the no load losses, it represents only the core loss of the induction motor.

S2. Ans.(b)
Sol. Single phase induction type energy meter is also popularly known as watt-hour meter.

Aluminium disc is provided in the air gap between the series and shunt magnets. Jewel bearings support the spindle. Hence the moving system in an induction type single phase energy meter consists of light aluminium disc.

Sol. Using superposition theorem (activation of one source at a time)
When 20v source acting alone: current source is replaced by open circuit. Req= 5+3=8Ω and Current I= 20/8=2.5A
When 5A source acting alone: 20 V source is replaced by a short circuit. By current division rule,I_3= 25/8=3.125A
Total current through I= 2.5+3.125=5.625 A

S4. Ans.(c)
Sol. The superposition theorem for electrical circuits states that for a linear system the response (voltage or current) in any branch of a bilateral linear circuit having more than one independent source equals the algebraic sum of the responses caused by each independent source acting alone, where all the other independent sources are replaced by their internal impedances.

Sol. Sumpner’s test is the test which is used to determine the steady temperature rise if the transformer was fully loaded continuously; this is so because under each of these tests the power loss to which the transformer is subjected is either the core-loss or copper-loss but not both.
