S1. Ans.(b)
Sol. The maximum pitch of rivets in tension will be taken as 16t_min or 300 mm. Whichever is lesser.
Hence, t_min = 10 mm. (Given)
Maximum pitch = Min. of (16×10mm & 300mm)=Min of (160 mm & 300mm)
▭(Maximum pitch=160 mm.)
S2. Ans.(c)
Sol. In a gusseted base, when the end of the column is machined for complete bearing on the base plate, then axial load is assumed to be transferred to base plate 50% by direct bearing and 50% through fastenings.

S3. Ans.(d)
Sol. When the axis of load lies in the plane of rivet group, then the most heavily loaded rivet will be the one which gives minimum angle between the two forces F_a and F_m.
F_a = load shared by each rivet due to axial load.
F_m = shearing load due to moment in any rivet.
