Lt General Ajai Kumar Singh takes charge of Army Southern Command in Pune

Lieutenant General Ajai Kumar Singh assumed charge of the Pune-headquartered Southern Command of the Indian Army on 1st of November, 2022. He took charge from Lt Gen J S Nain who complimented all ranks of the Command for their unflinching commitment, dedication and devotion to accomplishing tasks.

After taking charge, the General Officer laid a wreath at the War Memorial, Pune in a solemn ceremony to remember the fallen heroes.  The occasion was followed by a traditional Guard of Honour at the Headquarters Southern Command.

He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, the general officer was commissioned into 7/11 Gorkha Rifles in December 1984. He commanded 1/11 Gorkha Rifles on Line of Control in J&K, an elite brigade in the Western Theatre, a frontline counter insurgency force in the Kashmir Valley and Trishakti Corps in North East. The general officer was instructor at Commando Wing, Belgaum; Additional Director General of Military Operations and Director General (operational logistic and strategic movement) at the Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army), New Delhi. He has also been a diplomat soldier, having done a stint as officer-in-charge, PPO (pension paying office) Dharan at the Embassy of India in Nepal.

He has held many prestigious staff appointments including the Director, Military Operations Branch, Deputy Director General, Discipline & Vigilance, Additional Director General of Military Operations and Director General of Operations & Logistics branch at the IHQ of MoD (Army).  He has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, twoChief of Army Staff Commendation Cards and a General Officer Commanding in Chief Commendation card.

Lt General Ajai Kumar Singh is a keen mountaineer and has scaled Mount Rathong (22005 ft) on the Kanchenjunga Massif. He is also a keen sportsman, cyclist and yoga enthusiast.
